You broke the link for the most recent post, it says "http://arduiniana.org/2009/11/puzzle-box-3-the-voyeuristic-world/puzzle-box-opens/", it does go to the correct post, but in the HTML it's http:puzzle-box-opens/ ...

Does the couple know yet where they have to go? Kinda disappointing that people are too busy in life to go to exciting places...

Nice Idea. How about a compass that gives the direction? Or some Sound output (Let it say "Nice try, try again" or so :-) )

And the ultimate box: A black cube with integratet mini-led beamer and instead of a button use a gyro-sensor, lets say flip the box 3 times right an two times left to activate tracking.

Would also be a good software-only "box" for gps-cellphones. Just send someone the app by email...

But of course the real box is much cooler.

How about a box with multiple destinations, to be visited in order, like a treasure hunt? The possibilities are endless - but all are of course just derivatives. Hats off to the originality and simplicity of the original idea!

I'm brimming with ideas for different versions of this box.

Another cool idea (which would use a similar box but be tougher to program) would be one that starts off just giving a compass direction and a rough distances so like:
"North more than 10 Km"
"North less than 10 Km"
"Northwest less than 5 Km"
and then work a little more like the original box when it comes within a closer range of the destination and/or give clues.

I'm glad that I checked in and found a update to the story and even more please to find the story continues. A link to the wedding pictures is a wonderful bonus. It's a lovely adventure and I feel privileged to have inadvertently witnessed the start. My regards to Chris and Cristele.

This'd be a great idea for part of a treasure hunt.

You could even have a two-parter box. The first half could open using the GPS lock and have a clue to a more specific location in the area (a room in a house, hotel, somewhere in a garden or whatever....). The second half of the box could have an RFID reader and be opened by proximity to an RFID tag (I'm thinking an obvious visual cue at the location).

Or the box could include an RFID-embedded object which would activate a second RFID device at the specific location...

Brilliant idea! I can't wait to hear their reaction when they open it =)

Do you have anything against people making their own box? I love the thought of making one for the people I care about, but wouldn't want to step on any toes. Obviously this isn't for mass-production :)

Truly an inspiration!

@youevolve -- You are the THIRD person who has told me the same thing: "Thanks for NOT publishing the source." :)

Share your photos when you get a chance, and better yet, the account of your recipient's experience.

I know many people, myself included, have asked for the source code and schematics. I just want to thank you for NOT doing that! While I would have loved to "plug and play" with this project, reverse engineering it has pushed me into new areas of code and hardware that were just beyond my comfort zone.

I've not finished the code, yet; but the hardware is done. The code is (mostly) functional.

Thank you for inspiring me and pushing me to learn on my own.
